I just got new baby rabbit from a pet store and it has little bitty bugs on it. how do i get them off?

its not fleas; they r just tiny black bugs. the size of a pin head. what are they? why are they on it? and how do i get them off?

would a bath help?

if so, how do i give her a bath without terrorizing her?I just got new baby rabbit from a pet store and it has little bitty bugs on it. how do i get them off?
Dont give the rabbit a bath. It's too much trauma and rabbits are very sensitive animals. They can easily die from stress alone. The best thing to do is to consult your veterinarian about topical drops that can be placed on the back of the neck where the rabbit cannot reach. The drug must be safe for ingestion because rabbits, like cats, do clean themselves and anything placed on the skin or fur will eventually be ingested.I just got new baby rabbit from a pet store and it has little bitty bugs on it. how do i get them off?
The first post is incorrect; NEVER use any drugs made for humans on a rabbit. Geez, people, don't answer a question unless you know what you're talking about...

The third poster got some things wrong as well, such as recommending cedar chips, which are known to kill small animals and should never be used.

Here's a guide from rabbit.org about eliminating fleas and mites: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/groom鈥?/a>

...And another one (be sure to read both pages): http://www.associatedcontent.com/article鈥?/a>
my rabbit had these. they catch them from their brothers and sisters in the pet shop. if you take it to the vet they will give you some drops to put on the back of the rabbits neck. simple and easy treatment and your rabbit will not be scared.
if they are lice thn you can buy a safe shampoo for these in all good pet stores
they are either lice, fleas, or ticks. go to pharmacy and get Nix. it comes with an anti lice shampoo and a magnifier and a comb. it'll help.
This is just one of the few reasons that you should not buy bunnies from Pet Stores. Ofcourse I am definately not saying get rid of your rabbit, its not his fault that he was placed there- but next time rescue one, breeders arent that good either (but thats because they support overpopulation of rabbits)

Anyways- I thought I would just add that it. Get your rabbit to the Vet IMMEDIATELY! These are most likely fleas, which means that soon your house will become infested with them, and this won't be fun for anyone. The vet can show you how to bathe your rabbit, provide you with medicine to get rid of the fleas, and give you tips to make sure that your rabbit doesn't get them again. Pet stores are like heaven for fleas, so many animals to pray upon. Other than that if you have other animals, keep them away from the rabbit so that the fleas (or whatever they are) do not spread! Goodluck, and have fun with your new rabbit!
theyre probably what they call mites or lice with coming from the pet store and them being exposed to everything its so easy for them to catch anything coming to them the pet store should have shampoos especially for rabbits then go get some lice medicine from walmart or something .. get that and give her a bath she'll just hang out if she doesnt just have a firm grip behind her shoulders and she'll feel secure also buy a flea comb theyre like 99 cents and comb her fur throughly. also to reduce the bugs for her bedding use cedar chips let me know if you need anymore help
