Could i kill a squierrel or a rabbit with an airsoft gun?

i want to hunt squierrel but all i have is a big ole deer hunting rifle and an airsoft gun. there have been a but load of squierrel and rabbit around and i was wondering if my airsoft gun is powerful enof to kill one. it shoots at a lil bit above 400fpsand is a semi-automatic.i really need and answer for this one somebody please help meCould i kill a squierrel or a rabbit with an airsoft gun?

Yes, you can, but since the pellets are light, you would have to be at a close range (under 15 feet) and you would most likely need to hit it directly in the eye or temple (just in front of the ear on a squirrel, just under the ear on a rabbit).





You might look into different ammo types. If you can use metal shot, you can get a longer range and a much better kill ratio. And you can use a strong magnet to find missed shots, if you know where they landed.





If you're really looking for food, I would recommend learning to use a snare. For small game, a simple snare can can catch an animal every day, and you can set up as many as you care to. Best, they are fully reusable, and can be made for free, if you can find some string or bits of wire.

No. Airsoft guns fire soft-rubber 6mm BBs that aren't designed to kill anything. Its extremely unlikely that an airsoft gun could kill a squirrel or a rabbit. If you want an inexpensive pellet gun to use for hunting those species look at the Crosman 2100 (9.2 ft-lbs of muzzle energy) or the Daisy 880 (7.1 ft-lbs of muzzle energy).
When it comes to small game like that you should use .22 caliber. Reason being is that you don't want to make the animal suffer longer than necessary. I wouldn't trust any pellet gun that shoots slower than 1000fps to do the job humanely.
No. Airsoft was never meant to be used in hunting. Higher velocity air rifles may do it but I'd rather hunt squirrel with my shotgun. That's if I hunted squirrel but there are so few out here I don't bother.

You cant break its bones so unless you hit it in the right spot it won't die untill it bleeds out. But you can penetrate its body.

You are talking about the little plastic, colored air soft BBs? No, it won't kill a squirrel. Metal BBs or Pellets won't kill one at 400fps. It's not even in season where I live.
shoot yourself in the leg, if it breaks skin you got a good chance. jk, you would prob just stun the damn squirrel with those things.

I really hate to say this; (being I was a young lad once and did stupid things) but its not so much IF you can kill it with that, its how swift of a kill will you have?


It only takes about 6 ft lbs of energy to kill a rabbit/squirrel in a perfect shot at 6 feet that can be 3 or 4 foot lbs. I used BB guns, sling shots, home made bow and arrows (that only shot 20 feet) and all sorts of things to kill rats, mice, rabbits and starlings as a boy. But honestly many of those animals did not die fast, oh some did but many did not! As a boy I didn鈥檛 really give a crap unless the old man caught me. You see like dad, I鈥檓 now a member of the over the hill gang, I don鈥檛 like to see any animal suffer, no not even a rat.


So I am sure that there are ways to make an air soft as powerful as my old BB gun that killed thousands of mice, grasshoppers, small birds and a few squirrels and rabbits. But is it ethical?


You see real hunters like a sure kill; one shot, one kill. I respect men/women and youth who hold that principal of value.


You can buy a wrist rocket sling shot and kill them with steel ball bearing, rocks, marbles or fishing weights. Or buy a cheap pump up air rifle. Hell even a 35 lb bow would be better.





Just look at it this way if you had to go before a firing squad, would you want them to shoot you for an hour with sling shots until you died? Well that鈥檚 sort of what you doing to that critter.
