How much water should a rabbit drink? I don't think mine drinks much. I'm not sure if that's a problem.

The water bottle says to fill it to the top, which I do but it seems that he hardly drinks any water. I've seen him drink from the bottle. So I don't it's the bottle. Could it be the water? How much water should a rabbit drink? I don't think mine drinks much. I'm not sure if that's a problem.
It really depends on how big a rabbit it is. Is this a new problem, or has he always been like this? Is he urinating normally? If he's eatting a normal amount of pellets and hay, he's fine. A thirsty rabbit will not eat. (FYI....If a rabbit stops eating the first thing you should check is the water... ).

Your water bottle could be vapor locked, meaning the water doesn't come out when he licks. Give the bottle a squeeze with the tip down and see if it squirts (drips), and if bubbles go back into the bottle. Then put the bottle back keeping the tip down.

If you think the rabbit is thirsty, try giving him a (flat bottomed) bowl of water. If he's thirsty, he'll drink.

Has your water changed recently? If your water has a strong chlorine smell, you might want to try a different water source. How much water should a rabbit drink? I don't think mine drinks much. I'm not sure if that's a problem.
If the rabbit is not drinking a lot, it does not mean anything.

What you have to remember is just like in the wild, a rabbit will not eat if they can't drink. So as long as the rabbit is eating, you know the rabbit is getting water.

If the rabbit is not eating, or y9ou are still worried that the rabbit is not drinking enough you can try two things.

**1) Mak sure theat the drinking nozzle is not blocked by some type of item. If it is blocked then the rabbit can't get water.

**2) Try using a crock or a small bowl of water. The animal may not be used to the water bottle, but may be able to drink from a bowl (like a dog or cat).

Hope this helps!
If he's not drinking water that often then he may not be thirsty, but just in case, you could always pick up a bottle of spring water, or drinking water from the grocery store to see if he likes that better.
Soem rabbits just don't drink alot. If you give him fresh veggies everyday then he can get alot of moisture out of that. If his poo starts getting creamy instead of staying in the nice round balls then he is getting dehideraited. Another way to check is to pink his skin. If it stays up longer then your then try and give hime his favourite veggie or something soaked in water.
I have always found that given the option between a water bowl and and a bottle rabbits will always go for the bowl.

A rabbit has to learn that because a bottle does not yield much water that they have to drink frequantly throughout the day.

In my experience rabbits with access to a bowl of water will take on larger quantities of water just a few times a day, mine also like to use the water to wash with and will put their paws in it before washing.
do you feed your rabbit daily veggies? if he is getting water from veggies, he may not need to drink as much water.

if you are worried about him, i would leave a bowl and the bottle in the cage for a few days and see if that is the problem (that he just doesn't like the bottle).

if you don't feed him to many veggies, and he doesn't mind the bottle, i would try maybe a different water, that might make all the difference with it (the taste of the water). if it turns out to be the taste, i would put a drop of 2 of vanilla extract in the waterbottle (not a lot), that should help flavor it a bit to get him to drink.
Try it, no harm and if it still doesn't drink maybe its not thirsy?
You just have to make sure that he drinks. See if he has trouble drinking from it. If so, buy a different bottle or use a bowl. Just make sure he doesn't get Wet Dewlap! I'm sure he's fine. Make sure he has FRESH water everyday and don't fill it to the top because then you are just wasting water.
